Resort Questions

At Tesoro Island, we offer a selection of naturally gluten-free liquors, as all distilled spirits are gluten-free regardless of their base ingredients like wheat, barley, or rye. We focus on liquors made from inherently gluten-free ingredients, such as vodka from potatoes and wine from grapes. However, please note that cross-contamination can occur in facilities that process multiple types of grains, and flavored liquors may contain gluten. While most local liquors in Belize do not have gluten-free labels, our offerings are generally suitable for those avoiding gluten for lifestyle reasons. If you have celiac disease or severe gluten sensitivity, we cannot guarantee that our local liquors will be completely free of gluten. Gluten-free beer is not available.
Absolutely! We can accommodate all dietary restrictions, including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free diets.
We strongly recommend that guests obtain a comprehensive travel insurance policy when booking to cover potential issues such as illness, injury, lost personal items and baggage, cancellations, and other travel-related concerns. Please note that travel insurance is not available through the resort at this time.

Belize Questions

The rainy season typically spans from June to November. On the cays, this period usually brings brief squalls, allowing ample time for your activities. However, if heavy rain affects the rainforest, some inland tours on the mainland may become challenging. We are flexible, and if we determine that an inland tour is unsafe, we will offer an alternative activity on or around the island.

Yes. However, this departure tax may sometimes be included in your international airfare ticket, so it’s best to check with your airline when booking. The total international departure fee is approximately $38 USD and must be paid in cash.

Dangriga, the largest town in the Stann Creek District, is 55 miles from Belmopan and 105 miles from Belize City. With a population of 8,100, it is one of the largest Garifuna communities worldwide. The town’s name, from the Garifuna language, suggests ‘sweet water close at hand.’ Located along the North Stann Creek River, known for its cool, excellent-tasting water, Dangriga retains a charming, historic atmosphere with wooden houses on stilts and fishing dories along the riverbanks.

In Belize, a ‘cay’ refers to an island. Wee Wee Caye is part of a group of Belize Cays. While it is often referred to as Wee Wee Island in other parts of the world, the spelling can vary, with some using “Caye” instead of “Cay.”

The exchange rate is approximately two Belize dollars to one U.S. dollar. As a traveler, it’s your responsibility to check for any exchange rate differences or fees. Tesoro Island Resort will not issue refunds for currency variances or bank fees.

In Belize, U.S. dollars are widely accepted, but U.S. coins are not. Consider bringing smaller denominations as change might be limited. Most hotels, restaurants, and shops in major towns and tourist areas accept major credit cards, while street vendors and smaller places in remote areas may only accept cash.

At Tesoro Island, we accept MasterCard, American Express, and Visa. We also gladly accept U.S. currency.

Belize is a parliamentary democracy with a prime minister as the head of government and King Charles III as the nominal head of state, represented by a governor-general. Formerly a British colony, Belize became self-governing in 1964 and gained independence in 1981.

To make calls to the U.S. from your cell phone, we recommend contacting your provider to enable international roaming (which may incur a monthly fee). Guests with Sprint, Cingular, and T-Mobile have successfully used this option.
